House Hunting

                               House Hunting

Someone, that I know, went to look at two houses for sale. She had tried to get a good idea of what they looked like from the internet sites and internet maps. One house, located near a lake, looked the most promising, but the fact that it was near a lake was its best feature. On the other hand, the other house was near a sandpit, and this was a terrible drawback, so she was going to just fit that house in, to satisfy curiosity (for it had been listed for weeks).
Seeing the houses brought additional surprise. The internet maps had not given an accurate picture of these houses, as the first house was actually right next to the lake, and the second house, also, was right next to the sandpit. The lake, which had seemed the greatest attraction of the first house, turned out to be a detraction, because there was no beach, the lake was marked with "no trespessing" signs, and across the street and to the side was a "fish and game club" and large filled parking lots, with overflow parking in front of the house and a men's noisy barbeque across the narrow street, practically in the tiny front yard.
As for the second house, the sandpit did not detract from it, despite being next door, because a large, thick solid stone, 10-foot high fence had been constructed and covered in front by thick shrubbery, between the sandpit and house. One had no idea of any sandpit nearby, and instead, a sense of more privacy and security. In addition, the house had more room than had been advertized.
The house-hunter still did not make a choice, but marveled at the lessons learned. Isn't true about life –how a supposed advantage can become a disadvantage, if not handled properly, or a liability can become an asset, with faith and perseverance. How does a grain of sand become a pearl within an oyster? And so, when things are too easy for us, sometimes it can lead to our fall, if we aren't careful. And the grimmest circumstances, God can turn to assets and beauty, when we trust Him and obey.
